Equity - Sector Equity

Product Details

The PowerShares Canadian Energy Income Portfolio (Fund) is based on the S&P/TSX High Income Energy Index (Index). The Fund will invest at least 90% of its total assets in securities that comprise the Index. The Index is composed of "high yielding" Canadian securities (with dividend yields generally higher than 1.5-2%) in the energy sector that meet size and liquidity requirements. The index is computed using the net return, which withholds applicable taxes for non-resident investors. The Fund and the Index are rebalanced quarterly.

 Risk & Other Information

Typically, security classifications used in calculating allocation tables are as of the last trading day of the previous month.

There are risks involved with investing in ETFs, including possible loss of money. Shares are not actively managed and are subject to risks similar to those of stocks, including those regarding short selling and margin maintenance requirements. Ordinary brokerage commissions apply. The Fund's return may not match the return of the Underlying Index. The Fund is subject to certain other risks. Please see the current prospectus for more information regarding the risk associated with an investment in the Fund.

Investments focused in a particular sector, such as energy, are subject to greater risk, and are more greatly impacted by market volatility, than more diversified investments.

The Fund is non-diversified and may experience greater volatility than a more diversified investment.

Stocks of small and mid-sized companies tend to be more vulnerable to adverse developments, may be more volatile, and may be illiquid or restricted as to resale.

The risks of investing in securities of foreign issuers can include fluctuations in foreign currencies, political and economic instability, and foreign taxation issues.

Depositary receipts involve many of the same risks as a direct investment in foreign securities, and issuers of certain depositary receipts are under no obligation to distribute shareholder communications to the holders or to pass through to them any voting rights with respect to the deposited securities.

Securities that pay high dividends as a group can fall out of favor with the market, causing such companies to underperform companies that do not pay high dividends. Also changes in the dividend policies of the companies and the capital resources available for such companies' dividend payments may affect the Fund.

Because the Fund invests a significant portion of its assets in companies that are domiciled in Canada, it's particularly sensitive to political, economic and social conditions in that country.

The Fund is subject to certain risks applicable to Canadian royalty trusts, which are heavily invested in oil and gas. Growth potential may be sacrificed as revenue is passed on to a royalty trust's unit holders, rather than reinvested in the business. Royalty trusts generally do not guarantee minimum distributions or even return of capital. If the assets underlying a royalty trust do not perform as expected, the royalty trust may reduce or even eliminate distributions. Certain trusts may be subject to additional tax consequences, please see the prospectus for more information.

The Global Industry Classification Standard was developed by and is the exclusive property and a service mark of MSCI, Inc. and Standard & Poor's.

The S&P/TSX Composite Index is a capitalization-weighted index designed to measure market activity of stocks listed on the Toronto Stock Exchange.

The Sustainable Canadian Energy Index is designed to track the performance of stocks of oil- and gas-producing companies selected using a tactical allocation model based on trends in crude oil prices.
